Foxconn may produce Amazon 10.1" tablet after having passed on Kindle Fire

After passing the orders on the new Kindle from Amazon Fire, Foxconn Electronics, is believed to have won a contract to produce the Internet retailer's rumored 10.1-inch tablet device, and the factories could start shipping by the end of the year, according to a new report.

Digitimes Taiwan industry publication reported Friday, industry sources say that Amazon will continue its long-term relationship Foxconn ordering the production of its 10.1-inch tablet manufacturer. Amazon has historically hired Foxconn to build its Kindle e-reader, but the retailer went into your new Kindle Quanta Fire touchscreen tablet, the ship, 15 November

Unveiled on Wednesday, 7-inch Fire sells for $ 199 and a "souped-up version" of the Kindle, which is designed for media consumption in the Amazon ecosystem. Amazon Prime members enjoy the movie and TV show streaming tablet and Amazon users can purchase apps via the AppStore. Fire works in an old version of Google's Android operating system as "fresh and simple user interface" is painted across the Android "rough surfaces."

According to the report, sources said Foxconn "did not," Fire orders, as it had been engaged in producing an Apple iPad. This is consistent with rumors that occurred in June, said that production constraints could lead to the success of the iPad Amazon.

Amazon instead turned to Quanta, which was produced by Research in Motion tablet is a playbook in the past. Fire bears strikingly similar in that playbook.

AppleInsider reported on Monday, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, kindle a Fire, is a temporary setting for 'test the waters in front of Amazon's efforts are a true tablet, which has been pushed back to next year. 10.1-inch tablet is supposedly code named "Coyote", and should arrive in the 2012th Amazon is also said to be readying the 8.9-inch tablet with "an amazing form factor" in the second half next year.

Fire is the primary response has been different. Analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray, said the device is "not true competitor, but more competitive than expected," noting that Amazon is expected to lose about $ 50 per unit it sells. Mark Moskowitz, JP Morgan was impressed with the Fire, calling it "noise" and a springboard for the best. Others, however, is a great device "iPad killer" that created the price of an Apple tablet.

3000000 Kuo estimates that Amazon is building fires by the end of the year, but some industry watchers have expressed concern that the device is in tight supply this holiday season.

"If [Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos] quipped that people should have their own pre-orders in quick, that was not just a sales pitch," Reuters reported Wedge Partners analyst Brian Blair, saying: "This was his warning to sell it."

Amazon benefits of using the old technology and readily available 7-inch screen, but may have trouble expanding its manufacturing and distribution capabilities. Rival Apple has leveraged its complex operations, to give it a "competitive advantage over the Amazon, which can be difficult to produce more than a few million kindle fires for the holiday season," Munster said Wednesday.

In addition, Fire, Amazon opened a $ 79 low-end without a keyboard, the Kindle, and Kindle Touch with multi-touch capability. Both units continue to use e-Ink screens, and are sold side by side with the previous model, which is re-kindle keyboard.
