New Delhi: Networking solutions provider Cisco has joined the bandwagon by launching tablet of investment contracts in India and is aimed at businesses on the product.
Priced at around Rs 35000 (USD 700), tablet device (PC-like functionality) is designed to provide productivity solutions and business applications such as e-mails to managers.
"Mutual funds are not just another tablet. It helps to have more to do with productivity applications to provide a safe environment," Cisco India and SAARC National Sales Manager (Unified Communications) Minhaj Zia told reporters in a teleconference.
The device is available for around Rs 35000 in India and the docking station, the price would be around Rs 50000 (USD 1,000), he added.
The company will target its existing customers and users of its IP telephony services, which has about 700000 users in India.
"Even though there are new cards launched almost every day, we found that CIOs have expressed concerns about the security of corporate data from such devices when they are outside of the company. Investment contracts, together with our Cisco AppHQ (App Store) is designed to help companies work on the go, without worrying about security, "he said.
The seven-inch touch-sensitive tablet is working with Intel Atom processor and comes with 1GB of RAM (expandable up to 32GB memory), dual cameras (front and back) and the 3G/4G and WiFi support.
Minhaj said Cisco has been discussion of various packages of telecommunications operators.
"The device must be integrated into collaborative applications such as Web conferencing, Instant Messaging, Jabber, Cisco, Telepresence, e-mail and calendar, which can help colleagues communicate with each other," Zia said.
Also, access to Android Market, and AppHQ Cisco helps companies to choose a safe, differentiated mobile commerce applications, and controlling costs, he added.
Asked about the potential size of tablets enterprise market in India, he said, though no studies have been conducted so far, companies are looking for smart phones, tablets, and an important tool for connectivity to their workforce.
His only competitor in a segment, Avaya is currently in the flare, which is a 11.6-inch tablet.
Indian market is flooded with companies such as tablets, Apple, Samsung, HTC, Research In Motion and many more. Prices differ from Rs 5,000 Rs 32,000.
According to analysts, sales of Tablet PC segment in India is expected to touch one million units over the next 12 months.
